I went to the MoMA in New York City!

Last week I did a tag-along to New York City with my hubby, who was attending a conference. Lucky for me, I get to do that sometimes!  But, before I share my little goodie with you, let's talk weather.....I'm a 90 degrees kind-of-girl. Need I say more?  ABSOLUTELY. I love cold weather clothes because I like fashion, but here in Southern California, we wear the stuff,  but we don't need the stuff and I'm sure we look stupid wearing the stuff! Dressing for 9 degree weather turned out to be more like a 20 minute workout! It wore me out. I learned that I had to turn the heat off in the room before I could even start dressing. I had to undo and redo way too many times. I've acquired new skills that I never want to use again!

The one thing that I really wanted to do was go to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).  We got there prepared to pay $25 per person, and what a nice surprise that it was Free Friday (late afternoon only), but first we had to stand outside in line for 20 minutes! Remember, I'm that 90 degree girl! OMG!  But, the museum was worth every minute that I froze my butt off!  I was just so excited to be there!  So, of course after spending much time checking the place out, I had to hit up the MoMA store, and what caught my eye? A graphic miniature scene encased in a clear acrylic box (acrylic box not included).  It's inspired by The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden at the museum and the artist is Liz Roache, an art educator who trained with Ati Gropius in Bauhaus principles of color, design, and sculpture.  You can read more at the link below.

Picture from the back of the box, it's approx. 10" x 10"

Every piece is reversible for endless combinations, made of
lightweight cardboard and includes a storybook

Punch out sculptures and people

I'm just playing around now -  here are some quickies

Also bought these postcards - Joan Miro: Person Throwing a Stone at a Bird

Jacob Lawrence: In the North the Negro had better educational facilities

Georgia O'Keeffe: Evening Star
It's available at the MoMA Online Store for $35.  The tricky part is getting everything back into the box!

I hope you're having a great weekend and I'll check you later --- Beany

  1. Welcome to my very cold world-I'm in Western New York. It might amuse you to know that once it hits 50 in the Spring, people in the Buffalo area start wearing summer clothes.

Sort of jealous (in an I'm actually glad to hear you enjoyed it kind of way) that you had a MoMA adventure. NYC is the one part of the east coast I haven't gotten to yet, so that museum is still just a cool thing in my old design history books, for me.

Awesome gift shop find, btw. :)

    1. You'll definitely have to put NYC and the MoMA on your bucket list! 50 for us is freezing! Today the high was 61 and we were all coated and scarfed up, talking about how cold it was. I'm sure that would amuse you all!

    1. Thanks Ilona, I did have a great time, despite the weather. There's no place like New York! If I ever make it back, there are so many more museums to explore.

  3. For some reason, that MOMA roombox in a box reminds me of the Revell Eames Dollhouse, http://www.flickr.com/photos/glamourshoes/2488683338/. Maybe it is because the lines are similar, or it has a MCM edge to it, or maybe I am imagining it. At any rate, it sounds like you had a wonderful day and I love that box and your postcards!

    1. Thanks, and yes, I can see the similarities and I think you're right on both counts. Even the people have a little 50s vibe going on. The museum did have an MCM section and a dollhouse but I didn't post the picture of it because I didn't get the info on it.

    1. Felma, you're too much and thank you! Sorry to say that I don't fit into the artist category. I just love design, interiors and creating!

  5. Wow, you sure have had cool place to visit.. It is in my dreams for the future!

The weather thing is difficult: how to dress acording to the weather. I live in northern Finland, we are having snow in winter and also pretty cold days ... Sometimes even though I am used to coldness, I don't dress the way I should.

    1. Hi Kikka, yes, you must try to make it to New York. There's so much to see and do and you can't do it all in one trip! I don't mind snow so much if I can just stay inside and look out! It is beautiful!

    1. You're welcome! The red really caught my eye, even though it's not a favorite color of mine, I don't even use it at Christmas, but it it's perfect in this little set up.

  7. Ohh! Thanks for blogging about this. I will have to pick one up...And secretly-even though I grew up in blizzard town, I think it's cold sometimes when it's 60 degrees here in CA.
